THE BURNING OF AUTUMN

Greens turn into yellows, yellows turn into reds, then reds fade into blackness. Like a forest fire, Autumn burns through the bushes. Too fast to survive, too slow to notice. It leaves a history of a life in the form of a wilted shadow. But without it, new life would be invisible. Leaves curl as petals unfold. The silence of surrender thickens the air as the exchange of colour battles out below. The fire of Autumn glows hot in its taking, but remains gentle in its birth.
